Okay let’s take a look at some common questions you’ll be facing in an interview.
1. Have you drawn blood from a patient before?
2. Give me an example of a tough patient you had to deal with?
3. Tell me about a time when you handled multiple tasks at once?
4. What are three key traits any medical assistant needs to have? How would you these your three traits in yourself?
5. Often, you will deal with upset patients, how will you be able to handle this?
6. How would you rate your communication skills?
Let’s take a look at two or three of them and explore what a good answer could be to each question.
Let’s start with number three. “Tell me about a time when you handled multiple tasks at once?”
A possible good answer might be: “In my previous job working at a doctor’s office, whenever I would be given multiple tasks to perform by the physician I would always prioritize those tasks and deal with the most urgent ones first and then work my way down.”
Let’s take a look at question number five. “Often, you will deal with upset patients, how you build handle this?”
A: The key is to remain calm and to speak to them in a clear and even tone. Be sure they know that you understand that they are upset that you will do everything possible to help them.”
Finally, let’s look at number six. “How would you rate your communication skills?”
A: I would definitely rate them as strong, as I used to work in customer service for a number of years and was always praised for having great communication skills.
My previous job put me in touch with some pretty tricky situations dealing with irate customers and I was always able to handle them calmly and efficiently.
The key thing to remember when answering your questions is to use as many real-life examples as possible and use your own personal experiences to best answer the questions.
If you don’t have any real life job experience to draw on for your answers be sure to refer to either your training or other life experiences where you had to exhibit the skills interviewer is looking for.
